Mr. George Harold Pierce, age 81, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, June 20, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Amedisys Hospice. He was the loving husband of the late Mrs. Ann Shelton Pierce who was the longtime serving Treasurer for Colleton County. 

Born March 13, 1939, in Greenville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Benjamin Harold Pierce and the late Florida Cox Pierce.   He served our country in the United States Army reserves and was a retired supervisor from J. P. Stevens in Greenville.  George was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro and following his wife’s death, moved his membership to Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge No. 55 – Ancient Freemasons in Walterboro and was also a member of the Omar Shrine Temple in Mount Pleasant.  George loved old model cars, tinkering and being in his shop at home. He was a member of the Model A. Club. He was also possessed a passion for farming.

Surviving are: two sons, Michael Harold Pierce (Elizabeth) of Ruffin and Charles Rodger Pierce, Sr. (Tami) of Walterboro; five grandchildren, Leigh Cook (Scott), Charlie Pierce (Moya), Beth Cole (Phillip), Micki Avant (Bubba), and Kiley Pierce as well as sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Pierce; and his brother, Jack Pierce. 

Funeral services with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be conducted 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020, from the graveside at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.   The Reverend Roger Odum officiating.
