Colleton Prep Academy teacher, Kendall Hogan, has reached out via Facebook in an effort to extend thanks to a generous shopper at Walterboro’s Dollar Tree.

In a Facebook post made on July 28, the teacher said she made a trip to the Dollar Tree in search of book bins. Hogan was able to find all of the bins that she needed for her classroom, and the items filling her cart did not go unnoticed by the other shoppers in line. Several pointed out that they knew she must be a teacher based on what she was purchasing.

Upon reaching the cashier, Hogan was informed that a gentleman behind her had already paid for all of her items.

The generous shopper told the educator, “Teachers do a lot, and y’all have a lot coming out of your pockets. I hope you have a good year.” Hogan said that she thanked the gentleman profusely, moved to tears by the gesture as she returned to her car.

When asked if there was anything that teachers often need help with or wish for, whether tangible items or acts of service, Hogan said, “As a teacher, we are constantly thinking about our students and their needs. We’re always looking for ways to better prepare our students to become great leaders for their generation.”

The teacher noted that classroom needs are ever changing, but the most important thing that parents can do to help is to simply be present and involved.

“The main thing teachers need is communication,” Hogan said. “When teachers can openly work with parents, guardians, and the public, each child in the classroom will flourish. Being a teacher can be challenging at times, but it is so rewarding!”

Hogan hoped that her Facebook post will reach the gentleman who performed this good deed. “Thank you for reminding me that the world is still full of kind and caring people!”
