Walterboro City Council passed a resolution on May 3rd to improve and upgrade water lines in the Gadsden Loop community.

Council members agreed that the need to address quality of life issues for the city’s lower to moderate income residents is a priority. Therefore, infrastructure improvements have been identified as a priority in the Gadsden Loop area.

The City of Walterboro has applied for a grant with the South Carolina Department of Commerce to receive Community Infrastructure Funds that would improve the sewer system by making water line improvements.

The completion of this project will benefit approximately 273 people who live in the Gadson Loop community. At least 51 percent of these residents are low-to-moderate income, according to information provided by city leaders.

Walterboro City Council also approved committing city funds to the improvement project, in the amount of at least 10 percent of the grant. This grant match is a requirement of the Community Development Program.
