The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a fugitive from Montgomery County, Texas after locating him in Cottageville on September 6.
John Flaskrud, 47, disappeared during his criminal trial in Texas in June of 2023.
Flaskrud attended the first two days of his trial but then removed his ankle monitor and fled the state of Texas. He was on trial for manslaughter with a vehicle after he crashed his motorcycle while intoxicated, striking, and killing 36-year old Derrick Hintzman. Flaskrud is also a sex offender after being convicted in Wisconsin for various sex crimes. There was a warrant for his arrest for Failing to Comply-Sex Offender Registry.
Flaskrud was located in Cottageville living under a false name and refused identify himself to law enforcement. SLED assisted in identifying Flashrud. He is currently being held at the Colleton County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Texas.
