Former Colleton County Sheriff Robert Anderson Strickland Jr. was arrested on February 15, on charges related to an alleged domestic violence incident.

Strickland was arrested by the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office on charges related to an alleged domestic violence incident was and is facing a second-degree domestic violence charge after he allegedly slapped someone in the face and pulled their hair out due to an argument.

According to the incident report, the alleged victim attempted to call law enforcement earlier in the morning but could not do so due to Strickland allegedly slapping the phone out of their hand and refused to return it to the victim.

Strickland resigned as Colleton County Sheriff and permanently returned his law enforcement credentials after an incident that resulted in his suspension from his position as the Colleton County Sheriff by Governor McMaster. This suspension was the result of a domestic violence incident and addition additional criminal charges that included supplying alcohol to someone under 21 and misconduct in office. The judge in that case suspended time behind bars and gave credit for time already served. Strickland was also forced to do 200 hours of public service and undergo random drug and alcohol testing.
