Former Cougar Trey Murray to play in All-American Bowl

Trey Murray, former Colleton County High School Cougar Football standout, has been selected to participate in the 25th All American Bowl XXV to be played December 18 at US Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings and Super Bowl LII, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kick-off is planned for 12:05 p.m.

Murray, CCHS Class of 2016, originally inked a National Letter of Intent to play for Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. After three seasons, Murray transferred to Savannah State College, where he is currently completing his senior season.

Murray was nominated by his coach and selected by the All-American Bowl committee to join North America's top college and free agents football players, who have been selected to highlight their skills. Over 350 players college seniors and free agents were nominated for participation and selected players will form two teams of 42 players.

The All-American Bowl was founded in 1996 to give athletes the opportunity to compete against the best at their level, giving athletes the potential to be scouted by professional football teams.

“First of all, I would like to thank God for the opportunity he has presented upon me,” said Murray. “Secondly, I’ll like to thank my parents and my coaches for never giving up on me. I am honored to be selected to play in the XXV All-American Bowl game in front of thousands of people along with NFL and CFL scouts. My goal is to continue to play football professionally.”

“I would like to say Colleton County does have athletes,” said Murray. “Playing in this game and representing Colleton County is a dream come true. It gives me immense pride to say it is possible to make if from our small town and I am looking forward to the opportunity to represent our community and state in Minnesota.”

As a Colleton County Cougar, Murray spent two years on the junior varsity team and earned three varsity letters. He was named All-State in 2014, participated in the NUC All-State Football Game in Myrtle Beach (2015), All-Lowcountry Second Team Preseason (2015), All-Region (2015), Player of the Game (James Island, 2014), Play of the Game (West Ashley, 2015) and Cougar Football Leader (2014, 2015). Murray also played basketball and track and field for Colleton County.

Trey is the son of Kerion and Farena Murray of Walterboro.
