FoCCAS celebrates 10th birthday

Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter celebrated its 10th birthday with a fundraising drive that lasted from June until December. FoCCAS’ goal was to raise $1,000 for each year of their existence and they accomplished this, raising just over $10,000 to spend on building special gifts for the shelter animals. FoCCAS volunteers noticed that the shelter only has an outdoor meet and greet area for prospective adopters to meet adoptable dogs and no comfortable spot to meet cats.

One goal of the fundraiser was to create an indoor adoption meet and greet area. Both cats and dogs will be able to interact with potential families in a secure and cozy environment. The second project is to create a catio (a patio) for cats at the shelter. Catios allow the cats to have more room to roam and the ability to enjoy the outside while still being safely confined. Catios will give the cats a more natural environment while at the shelter.

The Colleton County Animal Shelter has made wonderful improvements in the last few years and is continuing to do so. FoCCAS board members wanted to show their appreciation by contributing an indoor adoption area and catio to celebrate not only 10 years of FoCCAS, but 10 years of the partnership between FoCCAS and Animal Services. FoCCAS is in the preliminary steps of designing and organizing both projects. If you have experience in design or are interested in helping with the build, contact FoCCAS at foccas.sc@gmail.com.
