A Florida man was critically injured in a single accident on Southbound I-95 near the Mount Carmel Road overpass on August 3. The pickup truck left the roadway, struck the end of a guardrail and lost control. The vehicle flipped over several times, struck a DOT camera post and a large adversary sign before landing on its roof. The driver received multiple life-threatening traumatic injuries. The CARE Flight medical helicopter could not fly due to poor weather conditions. Colleton County Fire-Rescue transported the patient to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. I-95 was down to one lane for approximately an hour causing traffic to back up several miles. The accident is being investigated by the SC Hwy Patrol.
