Fishermen, crowds getting ready for annual Edisto Billfish Tourney

The 2022 Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament is about to hit Edisto Beach, with anglers taking to the waters starting on July 21.

The Edisto tourney is the third and final leg of the S.C. Governor’s Cup, which is comprised of three different fishing tournaments across the state.

Registration for the Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament starts on Wednesday July 20 with boats beginning registration at 5 p.m. A captain’s meeting is set for 6 p.m., with live music at 7 p.m. at the Dockside Restaurant. Music will be performed by The Sound Dogs, and this event is open to the public. On Thursday, boats can take to the water at 8 a.m. to start the actual tournament, which lasts from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At 5 p.m. on Thursday July 21 the public can begin visiting arts and crafts vendors, while boats pull in for a weigh-in: the weigh-in lasts from 5 -8 p.m.

Live music at the park will be held from 7 -11 p.m.

The tourney resumes on Saturday July 23 with boats seeking the top fish from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Arts and crafts resume again at 5 p.m., with live music starting at 7 p.m. The awards ceremony for those anglers in the tourney begins at 9 p.m.
