Colleton Prep Athletics announced Ladson Fishburne as the new head coach for the girls’ tennis team. Under the leadership of Coach Lessie Snead in 2019, the Lady Hawks finished 5-7 on the year.

Fishburne, born and raised in Walterboro, is a veteran tennis player. He graduated from Pinewood Prep in 2009 where he helped his team to a three-time SCISA State Championship. Fishburne graduated from Winthrop University in 2015 with a B.S. degree in digital information design. Currently, Fishburne is serving on Walterboro City Council, is a member of the City Appearance Board and was a former chair of Keep Colleton Beautiful.

Previously, Fishburne served as a tennis instructor at Camp Seagull in 2010. He also earned a national title in a mother/son tournament with his mother, Diane Fishburne.

“I am very excited to help a local team,” said Fishburne. “I am new to coaching and CPA girls’ tennis. When playing doubles in tennis, it is very important to encourage your doubles partner and keep their head up focused on the next point, even when you are losing in a match. Keeping that positive energy can defeat the best team. That is how I plan to coach the team, keeping positive energy, taking it one point, one game, one set, one match at a time.”
