First Thursdays Revises their Schedule

Posted

The Walterboro First Thursday organizers are altering their approach to the monthly event. Jessy Burdick the organizer and Rebbecca Eggers explains the updates to the event, “In 2025, we’ve changed the schedule. Rather than closing the street and inviting vendors and food trucks for every event, we opted to fine tune it to the busiest 4 months. In the slower months, we will leave the street open to make parking more accessible but highlight shopping where shops will stay open late and encourage eating downtown, just kind of experiencing what you aren’t able to experience while you’re at work.”

Burdick, who along with her sister Mandy owns Colleton Coffee and Twig, added, “As shop owners, we ran the numbers to see which First Thursday had historically the best turnout, because we want to be here when the people really want to be here. That looks like April and September, October, and December, and so this will be the months that we will close the street down, invite vendors, have multiple food trucks, and entertainment.

Rebecca Eggers, who is handling publicity for the events and also a merchant, emphasized efforts to attract tourists and local residents through advertising with flyers, social media, and signage. The event aims to showcase Walterboro’s active downtown, featuring boutiques, restaurants, and art spaces.

Burdick adds, “We’d love to have everyone come downtown. We merchants really appreciate our customers, and we want to just have a fun family experience with them, to bring them downtown, be engaged, just have an enjoyable time, and experience downtown.”
