Firefighter-Paramedic Robert Jennings and Firefighter-EMT Tyler Allen received the Curtis P. Artz Award for Valor during the Awards Ceremony held at the South Carolina EMS Conference in Myrtle Beach Friday, March 7th. Both men were recognized for their heroic actions in June of last year. They responded to a person in distress in the Atlantic Ocean after recognized the woman was in trouble and donned life vests. They swam out to the woman who was caught in a rip current and were able to pull her back to shore. The woman went into cardiac arrest and they, along with other responders who had arrived successfully resuscitated her. She was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The woman survived due to their efforts. Colleton Fire-Rescue is proud of their heroic actions and thanks the Lord for placing them in the right place to make a difference in this patient’s life.
