A maintenance building was destroyed in an evening fire on Augusta Hwy., Wednesday evening, October 30th. Colleton County Dispatch received several reports of the building being on fire. Fire-Rescue arrived to find the building had already collapsed. The structure was located well off of the roadway and the fire burned unnoticed for some time. The business performed repair work on appliances and had over 35 refrigerators and other units inside the building. Several hundred were located in the wooded area around the building. The fire spread into the nearby woods. Colleton County Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to extinguish the fire. Units were on the scene for three hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
