A house was damaged and several other items, including a camper and two cars, were engulfed in flames during a recent fire that occurred in Walterboro.

The fire occurred at 109 Hardee Circle, east of Walterboro, on Friday, March 4th. According to Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy, a passing motorist saw the flames and stopped to notify the homeowner of the fire. The homeowner then called 911.

McRoy said the fire is believed to have started from near the storage building and then spread to the camper and vehicles.

In all, a large storage building, a camper, two cars and a motorcycle were all destroyed in the fire. Additionally, a mobile home was also destroyed. On a nearby property, another storage building, a second camper and two mopeds were also damaged by the flames.

“Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to combat the fires on both properties,” he said. Firefighting crews had the fire under control in about 25 minutes, but were on the scene for two hours performing overhaul, he said.
