Band of Blue member William Finigan attended the University of South Carolina Band Clinic in Columbia February 13-16. The USC Band Clinic, in its 42nd year, hosts over 400 of the finest high school wind and percussion students from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Florida. The goal of the clinic is to expose students to outstanding clinicians and master classes. Students also attended a number of concerts on campus at the Koger Center for the Arts.
Finigan was selected to the USC Honor Band conducted by Dr. Caroline Beatty from Texas State University. Finigan was 2nd chair in the top group for the third year in a row. There were a total of four clinic bands that performed concerts Sunday afternoon to conclude the weekend. Finigan was named earlier this month to the 2020 SCBDA Senior All State Band and will perform at Furman University in March.
On February 15, the CCHS and CCMS Winter Ensembles competed at the 2020 Carolina Winter Ensembles Association Colleton County Regional Contest hosted by the Band of Blue Booster Club. Booster Club President Randy Ballew and nearly 40 parents and students did an outstanding job hosting over 26 teams at this event.
The CCMS Cadet Winter Guard placed 2nd in their class, the CCHS Varsity placed 5th in scholastic AAA division. The Band of Blue Winter Percussion was promoted to Scholastic A Class in percussion. Over 75 students from Colleton County High and Middle schools participate in the winter ensemble programs.
Clay Blackwood along with Ryan Krywinski head up the winter percussion program. Bailey Raez with assistance from Jason Johnson and Cathy Meshach head up the CCMS and CCHS winter guard programs. Tom Finigan is the director of bands with assistance from Associate Director Nick Infinger, Assistant Director Cathy Meshach, Clay Blackwood and staff members Thomas Finigan and Taylor Fussell. The principal of CCHS is Maurice Cannon and the principal of CCMS is Lauren Behie.
Up next for the Band of Blue is the South Carolina Band Directors Association Region 4 Band Clinic at Charleston Southern University on February 21-22.
The newly formed CCHS Band of Blue Big Blue Jazz Band will perform at the 2020 SCBDA State Jazz Festival at Newberry College on Saturday, February 29.
The Band of Blue Winter Ensembles will next perform March 7 at White Knoll High School in Columbia.
The Band of Blue is preparing for its trip to Philadelphia and New York City for the 2020 ABC-TV 6 Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 26.
