Colleton County High School Cougar Football senior Kobe Ferguson has made the decision to continue his academic and football career at Georgia Knights Prep Academy in Snellville, Georgia. Georgia Knights Academy was founded in 2017 and offers the opportunity for student-athletes to participate in collegiate sports while pursuing a two-year college degree. The Knight’s schedule is designed to give players exposure for recruitment by four-year colleges while not losing any NCAA eligibility.
Ferguson, primarily an offensive tackle for the Cougars, was recruited as a guard. He is a three-year varsity letterman was selected as Region VII-AAAA Second-Team All-Region, Blitz Border Bowl and Team Lowcountry.
Ferguson fielded offers from McPherson College, Myrtle Beach Prep, Phenix City Buccaneers, Palmetto Prep, and the Upstate Rattlers.
“I was originally committed to the Upstate Rattlers, but decided to decommit and look at other options,” said Ferguson. “Coach Roach called me, and we talked on multiple occasions and I felt like it was the best choice for me. After talking to my family, and considering my options, I felt like it was the best route for me – so here I am. The coaching staff told me they can make me better than I already am and seeing the people they have put in different schools and watching their progress and success, I believe this step will put me in the best position possible. I see myself getting better and helping my team. I want to be a leader and win a championship.”
“I know Georgia Knights Prep School will help reach my goals in the classroom and provide me with the tools to be successful,” said Ferguson. “If I am honest, I haven’t had good grades in high school and there is no one I can blame for that but myself. Choosing the prep route has always been in my head, so knowing they could help me on the field and in the classroom played a big role”
“Coach Jay Davis helped me start to love the game and took me under his wing,” said Ferguson. “We built a bond outside of football. He is like a second father to me. Once I reached high school, Coach Peeler saw my potential and felt like I was a varsity guy. He told me to keep pushing. Coach Howell, Coach Singleton, Coach Jones, Coach Wheeler and Coach Bowers built a good relationship with me outside of football by making sure I was good and talking to me about grades. Then, last year, Coach Lyons stepped in and began helping me with my technique and turning me into a better athlete. He told me not to look far into the future, but to take it day by day, and get better each day.”
“I would like to thank God my parents, along with my coaches, teammates and the community for believing in me,” said Ferguson. “I will always remember my dad and Coach Davis reminding me of three things - don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something, never give up on yourself, and football isn’t forever, but your degrees will last forever.”
Ferguson is the son of Eric and Petina Ferguson. He plans to pursue a degree in business.
