A home was heavily damaged in a fire Wednesday night, October 30th. The family discovered their home was on fire after smelling smoke and seeing flames burning in the roof above a utility room at the Mol Senia Ln residence near Round O. Two adults and three children were able to safely exit the residence. Crews arrived to find the doublewide mobile home with flames through the roof on the north end of the building. The fire had traveled through the attic space, spreading about halfway through the building. Colleton County Firefighter-Paramedics deployed and entered through the front door. They were able to stop the spread of the fire to the south end of the structure. Most of the flames were contained in the attic space, which spared most of the belongings in the living space, however the home suffered extensive damage from smoke and water and is considered unlivable. The home had a metal roof installed over a shingle roof which hampered efforts to extinguish the fire. Portions of the metal roof had to be removed before the fire could be fully extinguished. Firefighters were on the scene for four hours. The fire appears to have been electrical in nature, starting in the area of the breaker box in a rear utility room.
