The Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail Commission (ERCK) is inviting locals and tourists to join them on the black waters of the Edisto River for the upcoming Winter Paddle Series. ERCK will be hosting a monthly paddle trip from October through March for anyone looking to enjoy a unique recreational experience. The first trip was held on October 19th with the next to be held on November 9th. Canoes and kayaks are available for participants to rent ($35 per boat, includes shuttle), or you can bring along your own equipment ($10, shuttle only) to the event. Specific details regarding each trip can be found on Ercktrail.org under the “News & Events” tab.
Founded in 1989 as a Colleton County authority, the Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail Commission (ERCK) is dedicated to preserving and promoting this ecological gem. The commission offers scenic paddling experiences, maintains the river and its access points, and promotes awareness of the river’s ecology. The Edisto River serves as a crucial habitat to many species who are threatened or endangered, such as wood storks, red cockaded woodpeckers, and loggerhead turtles. ERCK promotes accessibility, conservation, and enjoyment of the Edisto River for future generations by introducing people to paddle sports and offering ongoing education through guided and interpretive paddling experiences.
The Edisto River, the longest free-flowing black water river in the U.S., is a natural treasure contained entirely within South Carolina’s borders. Flowing through ancient cypress forests and rich ecosystems, the river provides unique recreational opportunities for locals and visitors alike.
