The Edisto Music and Shag Festival will be held August 30-31 and September 1 at Bay Creek Park on Edisto Beach. The festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year with a number of special events. Four beach music bands will perform. The park opens at 4 p.m. Friday with an arts and crafts fair and food vendors. DJs will provide beach music, and a shag lesson will be given at 5 p.m. followed by a non-professional shag contest at 9 p.m. The Entertainers will perform from 7-11 p.m. Saturday events start at 10 a.m. with the arts and crafts fair, food vendors and DJs. The Shem Creek Boogie Band will play from noon-4 p.m. An added treat will be the Stayin’ Alive Dance Troup performance and junior shaggers exhibition that afternoon. At 6 p.m. a special shag contest featuring winners from the past 10 years will be held. Blackwater Rhythm and Blues will entertain from 7-11 p.m. Junior shaggers exhibitions will be held both Saturday and Sunday. The vendors open at noon on Sunday with music by Dance to Second Nature from 4-8 p.m. A second junior shaggers exhibition will be held. “The shag is the state dance of S.C. Make plans now to visit beautiful Edisto and be a part of this very popular annual event,” said Mary Edna Keller. “Come to Bay Creek Park and be entertained by the top beach music bands and best shaggers in the Southeast.”
