Dorsey Street Accident Injured One

An 18-year-old female driver was critically injured in a single-vehicle accident on Dorsey Street Sunday afternoon.  The Infinity left the roadway, struck several fences, and came to rest against a large pile of dirt. A portion of a fence pole went through the windshield and impaled the driver through the chest, exiting out of the rear of the seat.  Colleton County Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the car and the fence pole.  Crews used rescue tools to remove the rear door and "B" post on the driver's side.  They then used a band saw to cut the pole off so the driver could be extricated. She was removed onto a scoop stretcher, which was padded in a raised position to keep the post in place. The Meducare helicopter responded to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center and flew the patient to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC.
