Divers with Colleton County Fire-Rescue were called to neighboring Dorchester County on Saturday, Oct. 9th to help search for people who might have been in the water after the truck crashed into a pond.

The S.C. Highway Patrol called CCFR divers to the pond, which is located off of Linger Longer Drive near U.S. Highway 17A. The crash occurred when a small pickup truck went into a pond and then was completely submerged in the water.

“A bystander assisted the driver from the truck as it sank, but it was unknown if other occupants were in the truck and the driver was not in any condition to tell responders that information,” said Barry McRoy, director of Colleton County Fire-Rescue.

According to McRoy, two local divers went into the pond. “The truck and the area surrounding the truck were searched, but fortunately no one else was found,” he said. The divers then assisted the tow truck company with hooking up the truck and removing it from the water.
