The Statewide Burning Band continues into the second week. Fires continue to destroy property and keep firefighters busy. The largest fire in Colleton County occurred on Thursday, March 27th. A fire on Dobway Lane near Canady’s Crossroads took place after a suspected debris fire spread into a wooded area, destroyed a storage building, animal shelter, damaged a small panel van, and the siding on a singlewide mobile home. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived and was able to stop the spread of the fire and save the mobile home. The storage building and animal shelter were both fully involved. Fire-Rescue saved three goats as crews extinguished the fire that had them trapped at the back of an enclosure. All of the contents of the storage building were destroyed. Crews were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours performing overhaul. The fire consumed approximately 1/2 an acre of woods. The SC Forestry Commission assisted in fighting the fire.
