A neighbor spotted and reported a fire behind a Dahlia Street home on August 20th. Flames were above the roof and a column of black smoke could be seen two miles from the scene. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived to find a hot tub behind the residence on fire with the vinyl siding on the back of the home melted as well as several windows broken. Crews quickly cooled the structure, before extinguishing the hot tub. Fire-Rescue personnel were able to access the home and ensure that two dogs were okay. There was no interior damage to the structure, but most of the vinyl siding on the back of the house was damaged and the hot tub was destroyed. The fire possibly started from cigarettes left in a container on the side of the hot tub. No injuries were reported.
