Runaway Volkswagen avoids stop sticks

Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a 2003 Grey Volkswagen Passat for failure to yield, but the driver refused to stop for blue lights and led officers on a car chase.
Deputies tried to stop the suspect for the traffic violation on Sept. 1st, but when the driver refused, they advised that they were in a car chase in Walterboro. This is when another deputy, who was at the nearby shooting range, heard the 911-dispatchers call and he joined with his fellow officers, trying to stop the vehicle. At this point, the suspect was near Dukes Barbecue in Walterboro, and was headed toward Cottageville.
According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the driver/suspect was heading toward the Dorchester County line along U.S. Highway 17A. As the suspect entered Cottageville, a Colleton County deputy and Cottageville Police officers even tried to stop the suspect by deploying tire-deflation devices, or stop sticks; however, this attempt was unsuccessful and the suspect kept heading toward the county line. The suspect ultimately got away, leaving Colleton County, as local officers were told to stop the pursuit. It is unclear if the suspect was stopped and arrested by Dorchester County authorities.
Stolen truck recovered
Officers with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources discovered an abandoned truck near Ruffin on Sept. 1st. That truck was ultimately deemed stolen. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the 2004 Ford F150 truck had been reported stolen by the Varnville Police Department. The truck was found behind a locked gate, near the 21000 block of U.S. Highway 21, near Ruffin. The vehicle was locked, and unoccupied, the report states. The vehicle was towed and authorities took possession of the vehicle.
Stolen UHaul recovered during domestic call
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to a Buckhead Road residence on August 29th when a woman and a man were arguing. While on scene, the deputy ran the tags of a Uhaul parked in the driveway of the house and discovered that the Uhaul was stolen from Charleston. The Uhaul was towed. However, while the deputy was on scene, the man kept arguing with the woman and became louder. He was also using profane language that could be heard from the raod, the report states. The man was arrested for public disorderly conduct. It is unclear who tole the Uhaul.
Gas station employee caught stealing cash
An employee with the Kangaroo gas station in Jacksonboro was charged with stealing money from her employer after she was caught taking cash from the register. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies were called to the gas station on August 28th when a store manager saw the employee taking the cash on video. The woman was charged with breach of trust. It is unclear how much money was taken.
