ATM broken into
An ATM at Heritage Trust was broken into on Aug. 12.
Responding Walterboro police officers found the machine had pry marks and the safe door handle and safe code turner were destroyed.


Shoplifting charge
Police were called to Murphy USA gas station in reference to stolen gas tanks on August 5.
Locks from the propane tank storage unit had been cut off and five tanks were reported missing.


Billiard burglary
Deputies responded to a burglary on Live Oak Road August 9. Victim reported that his shed appeared to be open. Missing were his pool table, pool balls and sticks. Nothing else was taken. The theft is under investigation.


Tools recovered
A burglary was reported August 8 by a resident on Survivor Court who claimed that someone had stolen tools from inside his home while he was next door. Another resident of the home, who had been sleeping, was awakened by the noise and witnessed a man running from the house with the tools. He left in a gray car with a missing bumper.
Later the same day, deputies were alerted by the victim that the gray car had been seen passing the residence. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and discovered the missing tools. The driver and passenger were taken to the Law Enforcement Center and the car towed.


Highway stabbing
Sheriff’s deputies responded to Colleton Medical Center in reference to an alleged stabbing that occurred on Hendersonville Highway August 8.
The victim, who was apparently intoxicated, said that he had driven onto the shoulder of the highway to use his phone. A suspect reportedly drove up in a white car, asked for a cigarette and then unexpectedly attacked the victim with a knife.
The victim got away and drove himself to the hospital with a laceration on the arm.


Gun stolen
A burglary was reported to deputies on August 9 by a victim who claimed that his home had been ransacked and a gun valued at $700 had been stolen. He alleged that a former tenant who had been evicted in magistrate’s court knew where the gun was hidden. Deputies took photos and the serial number from the gun.


Welfare check
Deputies made a gruesome discovery August 7 when responding to a welfare check to a camper used as a residence on Michelle Lane in Round O.
The grass around the car and camper had not been disturbed and the camper door was locked.
Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and used tools to gain entry. A deceased individual was discovered inside the camper and the coroner was contacted. The death appeared to be of natural causes.


Neighbors alert burglary victim
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress.
Neighbors witnessed a woman enter the victim’s residence. After getting the license tag number of a gray vehicle, the neighbors confronted the female, who claimed she had purchased the house. When a neighbor left to alert the victim who owns the home, the female left in a gray vehicle driven by another female.
Upon inspection, the victim discovered his shed had been ransacked, the door was broken, and some of his belongings were in boxes outside. He also found a broken window and door to the home. Inside, containers were packed with items to carry away before the burglary was interrupted.
As deputies were leaving the residence, a car matching the description of the gray vehicle passed. Officers followed, and both females were taken into custody.
