Two pit bulls attacked a pig inside its pen last week in rural Colleton County.

According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, law enforcement officers were called to the Creekside Lane residence on June 29 to help assist Colleton County Animal Control, which was already on scene.

When officers arrived, they found a pit bull that had been shot inside the pen. There was also a pig in the pen that had bite marks around its ears, the report states. The homeowner and pig owner told authorities that he heard noises coming from the back of his house. He walked outside and saw two pit bulls: one of the dogs was inside the pen and the other was approaching the pen.

The man said he shot both the dogs with a .22-caliber pistol. One dog died on scene. The other ran into a nearby patch of woods, the report states.

Animal Control authorities took the remains of the dog in the pig pen and attempted to contact the owner of the dogs, who lives near the victim’s residence on Skeeter Road. However, the dogs’ owners could not be located. This case remains under investigation.
