Drive-by shots fired on Gerideau
Walterboro police responded to a reported drive-by shooting on July 23 at 101 Gerideau St.
Witnesses told officers they were standing in the yard when an older gray four-door Dodge pickup with tinted windows drove by the home. The truck then made a u-turn, drove by the house and two black men in hoods were seen inside the truck. One produced a long gun and began shooting toward the group of people in the yard. Everyone ran for cover.
Victims said about 10 shots were fired before the truck sped away out of town.
Officers found five .223 and one .40 caliber shell casings.
The victim’s car had a hole above the passenger door and a broken window on the rear driver’s side.
A short time later police responded to a business at 1208 Hampton Street. The victim said he came out to take out the trash and found a hole in his rear passenger car window and a bullet fragment on the floorboard. The front windshield was also cracked.


Trailblazer reported stolen
A 2007 silver Chevy Trailblazer was reported stolen on July 21 from a residence at 28100 Lowcountry Hwy.
The resident said the vehicle was parked in her driveway, but that morning, it was missing and the keys were still inside her home. The truck had two decals on the back glass: “Lake Life” and “USC Alumni.”
Jeep Cherokee reported stolen
A person at a business at 314 Bells Hwy. reported her black 2006 Jeep Cherokee was taken without her permission on July 21 between 1-4:30 p.m.


Ends up in jail after van
hits a bump
A deputy was following a white Ford van down Green Pond Highway on July 21 when the van hit a bump and a bottle of oil or transmission fluid and a tie strap bounced out into the road. The deputy swerved to miss the debris, then stopped the van.
Turns out, the driver was wanted in Jasper County on warrants for improper funds, as well as Charleston County for improper funds and assault and battery with intent to kill.
So he got to go to jail to await extridition.


Cousin reports
being kidnapped
A man reported on July 22 that he was kidnapped by his cousin on July 19.
The man told deputies that he rode to a gas station with his cousin, when cousin got on I-95 and announced they were going to Hilton Head. The man said he repeatedly told the driver he wanted to go home, but was ignored. So he went to sleep.
When he awoke, they were near the 8-mile marker with a flat tire. They made it to a Walmart to get a new tire, when the two got in an altercation and the victim was arrested by Hardeeville law enforcement.
He went to jail and couldn’t call anyone because his cell phone was dead.


Ford Edge
reported stolen
A Red Dog Lane resident reported July 22 that her 2013 Ford Edge was taken from the residence. She left the car at her mother’s house because the vehicle over-heated she had left the keys inside. The next morning, her sister called to tell her the car was missing.


Black Sierra
reported stolen
A resident of Geechie Club Lane in Cottageville reported July 23 that his black 2006 GMC Sierra four-door truck was missing. The truck was parked when he went to sleep but was missing the next morning. He’d left the keys on the console.
