Colleton man assaults girlfriend for not wanting a hug

A 27-year-old Walterboro man is charged with third-degree assault and battery after he assaulted his girlfriend because she didn’t want to hug him.
According to an incident report filed with the Walterboro Police Department, the female victim told authorities that the suspect arrived at their apartment and he had been drinking. The victim said when the suspect arrived at their shared apartment, she had just learned that tested positive for COVID-19: when the suspect tried to hug her, she said she told the suspect that she didn’t feel like being hugged.
This is when the suspect allegedly threw the woman onto the bed and assaulted her.
According to the incident report, the woman had scratches along her chest from the assault. The officer noted that there was damage to the refrigerator inside the apartment, caused during the struggle.
The woman confirmed the assault and said she had to “fight” the man off of her. However, the woman did not want to press charges.
Due to the injuries on the woman, the officer did charge the man with assault. Because the suspect is also COVID-19 positive, however, the suspect could not be taken to the Colleton County Detention Center, the report states.
The jail is operating under a strict policy regarding accepting inmates who test positive for COVID-19.
Since the man could not be taken to jail, the officer called the suspect’s father, who came and picked up the suspect from the scene.

Zaxby’s employee assaults manager
Officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to Zaxby’s Restaurant on May 25th when the manager was assaulted by an employee. According to an incident report filed with the department, the female manager contacted authorities and said the suspect, who is an employee at the restaurant, assaulted her. According to the report, the ordeal began when the suspect was not wearing her mask property while at work. The manager told officers that she repeatedly told the suspect to wear her mask, and then said she would be written up if she did not. The suspect refused to comply, and the woman was fired. The suspect then threw a hat at the manager/victim, hitting her in the face.
The suspect also refused to sign the write up and started to yell, and threatened to hurt the victim. The entire incident was caught on surveillance cameras.
The woman is charged with third-degree assault and battery.

Couple assaults each other, refuse to press charges
A Colleton County deputy was called to a Round O residence last week over a domestic dispute where a man and a woman both assaulted one another. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a deputy was called to a Featherbed Road residence when a man said his live-in girlfriend physically assaulted him when he got home from work. The man said the woman bit him and started breaking his chain that he was wearing around his neck. When the deputy spoke to the woman, however, about what happened, the woman claimed the man punched her in the face six times and started to assault her when he got home from work. The deputy said the man had a bite mark on his lower left forearm and the woman had scratches on her face, the incident report states. Neither the man nor the woman would press charges against the other, the report states. No arrests were made.

Naked man caught, charged with indecent exposure
A Walterboro man is charged with indecent exposure after he was caught running around naked. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, officers received a 911-emergency call on May 22nd about a man on Albert Street who was naked. The man was reportedly running in the street naked. He was also running through a neighbor’s yard naked. The arresting deputy “made contact” with the suspect and then arrested him for indecent exposure.

Couple’s argument leads to road rage
Law enforcement officers were called to a portion of Interstate 95 near Walterboro on May 22nd about road rage. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the county’s emergency dispatch began to receive reports of two vehicles in a road rage incident near mile marker 63. One call was from the alleged female victim, who said her husband was chasing her down the interstate and trying to run her off of the road. The deputy met with both the husband the wife.
According to their statements in a report, the man and woman had gone out drinking the night before and then gotten a hotel room. The two got into an argument that morning. The wife told deputies that her husband left, and she left behind him.
The husband said the wife left, claiming she was going to Ohio with their children. The couple’s two children were in the vehicle when this entire incident occurred. The man said he did try to stop her from leaving. During the incident, the woman’s vehicle was damaged, the report states. The 33-year-old woman had a suspended driver’s license. She was cited for driving under suspension and was released. No other charges were made.

Broken tag light leads to drug arrest
A 46-year-old Colleton County man is charged with multiple accounts of drug possession after he was stopped by a deputy for his vehicle having a defective tag light.
According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the man is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine; possession of 15 units of ecstasy; trafficking meth, greater than 10 grams but fewer than 28 grams.
The man was first stopped on May 20th near Sixth Street in Walterboro. The deputy stopped the driver for having a defective tag light and for driving over the center lane “multiple times,” the report states.
When the deputy stopped the man, the man immediately got out of his vehicle: the man smelled like marijuana and said he was just smoking. The man also had two alcoholic beverages in the center console that were unopened, the report states. The man admitted to having the cocaine and the ecstasy for personal use. In addition to the meth and ecstasy and cocaine, the deputy also found 12.22 grams of marijuana and two pill bottles.

Dog stolen while on potty break
A man who stole a small dog as it was on a potty break is also now wanted on meth charges. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a resident on Glory Bound Place Road in Round O called 911 and said that he let a Boston Terrior dog out to potty when the suspect pulled up in a White GMC Terrain suv and then snatched the dog. The suspect attempted to flee, but his vehicle got bogged down in a nearby swamp area. The suspect left the vehicle bogged down, and ran on foot. However, the responding deputy found meth in the vehicle, which had a New York state plate. No dog was found at the scene or in the car. This case is under investigation.

Motel assault
A 39-year-old Walterboro resident was assaulted by a 29-year-old Ruffin man in a local motel. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the victim called for help, but when officers arrived to his motel room, the victim refused to press charges. The man also refused medical help; however, officers stated that the man was “covered in blood.” The victim told authorities that the suspect hit in the face with a baseball bat before fleeing the area. This incident occurred at the Palms Inn in Walterboro on May 18th.

Thief steals pecan roll from local grocery store
An identified black man is accused of stealing a pecan roll from a local grocery store. According to a Walterboro Police Department, the manager of IGA called the police on May 20th when a man walked into the store, put the Lone Star Pecan Raisin Roll into a bag that he had brought into the store, and then walked out. The man did not stop at points of sale to pay for the item, the report states. The man’s theft was caught on camera. He was seen on camera leaving the area on foot. The stolen roll is valued at $4.99.

Man spits in another’s face, spews racial slur
Officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to a parking lot last week when one man spit on another. According to a police report, the victim told the officer that while he was driving out of the rear driveway of an area business, a white man began yelling at him that he was going out the wrong way of the parking lot and needed to move. The victim told the officer that he decided to “back up his vehicle” to prevent any more issues with the subject. When he did, the victim says the suspect came up next to him and continued to yell. The victim then said that the suspect spit at him three times, hitting him in the face with his saliva. Some of the spit also landed on the side of the man’s vehicle.
The officer said in his report that he saw saliva on the outside of the man’s driver side door and on the top inside of the door.
The victim also said the suspect called him a racial slur before the suspect left the parking lot.
Officers have identified the suspect as an 84-year-old Walterboro man. The 49-year-old St. George victim said he will pursue charges.

Woman tells officer she is being harassed by her drug dealer
A 62-year-old Walterboro woman called 911 and reported that a man threatened her because she owed the man for crack cocaine. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, officers are were called to the Gerideau Street residence when the woman said the suspect came into her front yard and yelled at her, saying “something like ‘I’m going to get you,’” the report states. The woman then told the officer that this man is mad at her because she bought crack cocaine from him and didn’t pay him for it. The woman said she wanted the incident documented. No arrests were made.

Motel guest caught staying without paying
A 20-year-old Ruffin man is accused of staying at a Walterboro motel without permission. According to a Walterboro Police report, the owner of Roadway Inn called 911 and reported that a person was stayin in a room at the motel without permission and without paying for it. An officer found them man in the room. The suspect told the officer that he just needed to stay there “long enough for him to get his stuff together,” the report states. The man was also wanted for a probation violation. The man was arrested and charged with burglary.

Shots fired at man’s house
A 63-year-old Walterboro man called 911 and reported that someone fired at his house. According to a Walterboro Police report, the victim said on May 23rd that an unknown person fired shots at his house. Officers discovered seven shell casings, four 9-mm casings and three 40-caliber shell casings. No arrests have yet been made.

Driver hears shots, realizes his car is hit
A 37-year-old Walterboro man who was driving down Hampton Street on May 23rd when he heard a gunshot. The man drove to his house, where he discovered that his car had actually been struck by a bullet. The victim called 911 and reported the incident. Officers are investigating this case. There are no suspects yet identified.

McDonald’s customer assaulted while waiting for food
While waiting for his food in the McDonald’s Drive-Thru in Walterboro, a 68-year-old customer was verbally assaulted by another customer. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the male victim said that he was asked to pull up from the cashier’s window and wait for his food to be brought out to him. While doing this, another female customer in the drive-thru began to “cuss” at him and then proceeded to throw a hair brush at his vehicle, which put a dent in the man’s door. The victim said the suspects fled in a Cadillac. The suspect could be charged with malicious injury to property.
