Shots fired at Smoaks house

Deputies are investigating a shooting that occurred in the driveway of a Smoaks residence. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a deputy was called to the Augusta Highway residence in Smoaks on May 28th when the homeowner reported that a white vehicle pulled into the driveway of his house and then fired several shots toward the victim’s house. The case is being investigated as an aggravated assault. Photos were taken and the case is under investigation.

Meth found during traffic stop
A 31-year-old Walterboro man is charged with possession of meth after a deputy stopped his vehicle for failing to maintain his lane. The traffic stop occurred on June 3rd along Sniders Highway. Once the deputy stopped the driver, the deputy said in his report that he could smell marijuana coming from the car. The deputy searched the car, and found meth. The man was charged and taken to jail.

Drugs found during eviction
Deputies discovered drugs inside a vehicle on Paint Horse Lane in Walterboro on June 3rd and subsequently arrested a man and a woman for trafficking meth. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a deputy was actually called to the property by the property’s landlord, who said he was evicting a person off of the property. When the deputy arrived, he found a vehicle sitting in the driveway of the residence. While speaking to the suspect, the driver said in his report that he could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle, the report states. The deputy then searched the suspect’s car and found meth. Both the 57-year-old man and the 42-year-old woman were each charged with trafficking meth, greater than 10 grams but fewer than 28 grams.

Lumber burglary
Deputies met with the owner of Discount Lumber in Walterboro on May 29th who said he discovered several items missing from the store. The door to the business was also damaged. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office report, the case is under investigation as a burglary. It is unclear how many items were stolen from the store.

Residential burglary
Law enforcement officers are investigating a burglary that occurred at Jones Swamp Road residences in Walterboro. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies were called on May 31st about two houses at two different locations. The cases are under investigation.

Catalytic Converters stolen
On May 29th, deputies were called to a business about catalytic converters being stolen from vehicles that were parked in the business’ parking lot. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, suspects cut through a fence on the property and then stolen the catalytic converters from several vehicles. The case is under investigation.

Edisto Island death
Law enforcement officers from the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to assist the Edisto Police Department on May 29th when dispatchers received a 911-call about a person who had been shot. According to a Colleton County Sheriffs’ Office incident report, officers found the deceased victim at a Lee Street residence on Edisto Island.

Elder abuse reported
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to a Walterboro house on May 26th when a hospice worker reported that a patient’s husband leaned down over the patient and slapped her across the face, leaving a scratch on her face, the report states. The case is being investigated as knowing abuse of a vulnerable adult.
