Man bashed in head, robbed as he puts air in his tires

A 34-year-old Walterboro man was struck in the back of his head and robbed as he attempted to put air in his vehicle tires at a Walterboro gas station.
According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, officers were first made aware of the crime when they were called to Colleton Medical Center. This is where the victim reported the assault. The man told officers that he was trying to put air into the tires of his car when someone struck him from behind, causing him to lose consciousness. When the man “came to,” the report states the man drove himself to the hospital. He was “covered in blood” when officers spoke to him, the report states. The victim told officers that his phone and wallet had been stolen while he was unconscious. The incident occurred at a Robertson Boulevard convenience store.
The case is under investigation. As of press deadline, there have been no arrests in this case.
Man leads deputies on high-speed chase
A 34-year-old man fled from deputies on March 7, ultimately crashing into someone’s yard. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a deputy tried to stop the man on Pleasant Grove Road because the man was driving with a suspended license. However, the man refused to stop the car and led the deputy on a high-speed car chase. The driver then ran into a patch of woods near the house. A perimeter was established around the area, and a search dog located the man in the woods. He is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, first offense, and driving under suspension.
Traffic stop leads to meth arrest
A 21-year-old man is charged with failure to possess a registration card and possession of meth after a Colleton County deputy stopped his vehicle on a traffic violation. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the driver was stopped on Sidneys Road, near Cox Street, in Walterboro on April 5th because there was no license plate on the vehicle. The driver was subsequently charged with possession with intent to distribute meth, first offense, and failure to possess a registration card.
Stolen property found
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at a house in Walterboro on April 5 and discovered stolen property. According to an incident report filed with the sheriff’ office, the search warrant was executed at a house on Live Oak Street in Walterboro: the warrant was gained because of “multiple incident reports” giving officers information that stolen property was located at this residence, the report states. At the Walterboro house, investigators found a stolen air compressor, a stolen drill and a safe filled with various other stolen items. The items include jewelry, collector coins, memory cards, etc. The items were stolen from a house on Fourth Street on March 9th.
Woman cited for indecent exposure
A 20-year-old Walterboro woman is wanted for indecent exposure. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the woman went inside the IGA store in Walterboro and began to “cuss at workers and customers.” When told to leave the store, the woman became angrier and then pulled her pants down, exposing her genitalia in public view. The woman was caught on camera. She has been identified and officers are investigating. The woman has also been put on trespass notice from the store.
Angry woman throws food … in her mother’s face
A 31-year-old Walterboro woman was caught on camera throwing food in the face of her mother. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the 59-year-old victim said her daughter came to her place of work and began to throw food in her face, screaming that she was mad that she had to take another family for a COVID-19 test. The incident was caught on tape. The victim was struck in the face twice, once with two packs of cookies and again with a snack cake. The victim did not want to pursue charges, but was told how to take out a restraining order against the suspect. The suspect was also placed on trespass notice from the Jefferies Boulevard gas station.
KFC customer dumps drink onto employee
Officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to the KFC restaurant in Walterboro on March 29 when a customer dumped their drink onto a KFC employee. According to a police report, the customer drove through the drive-through portion of the restaurant and ordered food. During this time, the customer became “very rude” towards the victim. After completing the order, the customer drove to the window to pay for their food. Because of the customer being rude, the manager stepped in, to de-escalate the situation, the report stated. However, the customer refused to leave the building and continued to antagonize the victim. The suspect then threw their drink onto the victim. The victim is a 20-year-old Ruffin woman. The incident was confirmed by witnesses at the restaurant. The victim declined to press charges.
Woman steals flowers and then asks for refund
A woman was caught trying to steal flowers from Wal-Mart in Walterboro.
According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, officers were called to the store on March 31 when a 37-year-old Walterboro woman was caught trying to return two bags of potting soil and three shrubs that she had just stolen from the store’s lawn and garden department. The woman’s theft was caught, and yet she still tried to return them for a refund. The same woman was also on trespass notice from Walmart, after being caught stealing from the store in September of 2020. The woman is charged with shoplifting, first offense, and trespassing after notice.
Woman stalks man at his job
A 51-year-old Colleton man told authorities last week that a Walterboro woman is harassing him. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the 48-year-old woman is repeatedly texting and harassing the man. She is also parking her car outside of his job, and then is following him home from his place of employment, the report states. The woman has also repeatedly called the victim, despite her being asked to stop. She is facing harassment charges.
Fight at apartment complex leads to gun charge
Officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to the Lincoln Apartment Complex in Walterboro last week when 911-calls said that there was a group of people trying to start a fight and that one of the individuals had a gun. According to a Walterboro incident report, the responding officers stopped a vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot: that car met the description of a vehicle given to them by 911-emergency callers. In all, officers spoke to five witnesses, all of whom identified two suspects as trying to start a fight and to pulling a gun. The suspects are identified as a 25-year-old Round O man and a 28-year-old Walterboro woman.
No one was injured. The incident is being investigated, and suspects are facing aggravated assault charges.
Cottageville traffic stop leads to stolen truck recovery
A man who was stopped in Cottageville last week for a traffic violation was charged with several offenses, including having a stolen vehicle out of another county. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the 39-year-old man was known to the deputy because the deputy said in his report that he knew the man from “previous encounters,” and he knew the man did not have a driver’s license, the report states. The man was charged with driving under suspension, third offense, and having an uninsured motor vehicle. He is also being held for an outstanding warrant issued against him by the St. Stephen Police Department in Berkeley County.
Woman’s arrest leads to two other arrests
During a traffic stop on April 5th, a deputy found two grams of meth inside a woman’s bar. The woman then said she wanted to speak to law enforcement officers about the meth. She discussed the source of the meth with the officer. She was charged with possession of meth, first offense. However, after speaking with the woman, deputies made two other arrests: a 33-year-old-man and a 42-year-old man - were each charged with trafficking meth, greater than 28 grams but fewer than 100 grams, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
