Convicted felon caught with shotgun

A 47-year-old Colleton man is charged with several crimes, including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies were serving an arrest warrant on the man at his Penny Creek Drive house in Ruffin on March 25th when they saw additional drugs in “plain view” inside his house. The man is charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, first offense; and trafficking meth, greater than 28 grams but less than 100 grams, first offense.

The gun that was discovered and then seized is listed as a shotgun.

Family Dollar thief caught with drug

A 48-year-old Walterboro is charged with multiple crimes, including being a habitual offender and possession of drugs, after she tried to steal from the Family Dollar in Walterboro. According to the Walterboro Police Department, officers were called to the Robertson Boulevard retail store on March 14th when the female suspect put several items into her purse and then left the store without paying. The items included baby wipes, diapers and toothpaste, the report states. Officers responded and found the woman, who had 15 hydrocodone pills in her possession.

The suspect is charged with habitual offender, driving under suspension 2nd offense or greater, possession of a schedule II narcotic, and shoplifting.

Fight leads to broken finger

Deputies were called to a house on Grayson Street in Walterboro on March 21st to a report of an assault. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, two women began fighting. One woman was grabbed her hair and thrown to the ground, at which point she broke her finger, the report states. Deputies are investigating this as an aggravated assault, but no arrests have yet been made.

Concerned caller leads cops to drug deal

A concerned Colleton resident called 911 to report a suspicious person along Field Creek Road in Ruffin on March 23rd. That call ended with the arrest of two Walterboro residents – a 37-year-old man and a 50-year-old man. The 37-year-old suspect is charged with possession of a schedule I narcotic, first offense, and the 50-year-old man is charged with possession of meth, first offense. The men were caught selling drugs from their vehicles along this rural route in Colleton County.

Church damage caught on tape

Vandals have damaged a local church’s electrical water pump.

On March 25th, deputies were called to Rehoboth Methodist Church in Cottageville to a report of the damage. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, the complainant received a phone notification about midnight on March 24th from the church’s security system; the notification was alerting the man that there were people on the property. According to a church surveillance video, several men can be seen standing around the back of the church, near a pump house and fellowship hall. When the complainant arrived to check out the church and the property, he found the pump house filled with nearly two feet of water. This submerged the electrical pump and damaged the church’s water pump.

The case is under investigation.
