Toddler tests positive for marijuana

The parents of a Walterboro toddler who tested positive for marijuana at an area hospital have declined to press charges against the family member who allegedly smoked the drug while caring for the child.  According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, local officers were notified on March 9th by hospital personnel that a 2-year-old toddler had tested positive for marijuana while at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. It is unclear why the child was originally at MUSC. 

According to the incident report, the child was with the grandmother when this incident occurred. The child’s parents were notified, but they declined to press charges against the grandmother. 

The Department of Social Services has been notified. 

Search warrant reveals drugs, stolen goods 

Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Unit at the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant on a Round O house on March 11th. This search at the Augusta Highway residence uncovered several stolen items, along with various narcotics and drug paraphernalia. This case remains active and no information on the suspect is yet available. 

Stolen trailer recovered in Cottageville 

Deputies with the sheriff’s office recovered a stolen trailer last week. A deputy with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist the Summerville Police Department at a Red Oak Roadhouse in Cottageville. There, the homeowner said he did buy a trailer from the suspect, who was wanted by the Summerville Police Department. That suspect had stolen the trailer and then sold it to a Cottageville resident. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, the trailer was confirmed stolen and was taken into evidence by the sheriff’s office. 

The victim was called to pick up the trailer and no other action was taken. 

Local man sees his own property for sale on social media 

A Walterboro man called the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office last week when he discovered that several of his items were stolen – and then were being sold on social media. 

According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the man reported that several tools, a set of tires and rims, and a gray electrical box had been stolen from his home during the night on March 11. He then discovered that his items were listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The person selling his items was also listed on Facebook Marketplace as being from Santee, S.C., the report said. The case is under investigation. 

Men try to steal from local business but drop stolen goods 

Several unknown suspects broke into a Walterboro business on March 8th and stole from vehicles parked inside the business’ lot. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the suspects went to Sherill’s Automotive and Towing while the business was open, and carried away eight wheels, four radiators, and also cut a catalytic converter off of a vehicle. The suspects placed the items over a fence and into a patch of woods near the north side of the property. They then fled the scene. The suspects also dropped the stolen items while fleeing, the report states. They are wanted for Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts or Accessories and Grand Larceny. 

Man lies to 911 about shooting his sister 

An 18-year-old Colleton man called 911 last week and reported that he was high on marijuana and shot his sister. When deputies arrived at the Knights Avenue house, however, no one had been shot. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, the suspect called 911 a second time and told dispatchers that he was “ready to go to jail,” the report states. The man was charged with unlawful communications and misuse of 911. 

Tractor, bushhog stolen 

Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to an Islandton residence on March 4th when the homeowner reported a Grand Larceny, greater than $10,000. According to an incident report filed with the sheriff’s office, an unknown person stole the victim’s Kubota tractor and a bush hog. The case remains under investigation. 

Club goer tries to take gun inside 

Law enforcement officers were called to the Hangtime nightclub on March 6th when a 27-year-old man tried to enter the business with a gun. According to an incident report filed with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, the man was trying to carry the concealed weapon into the business when the gun was found. The suspect did not have a concealed weapons permit. He was arrested for unlawful carrying of a handgun and was taken to jail. 

Busted tail light leads to drug arrest 

A deputy on routine patrol last week stopped a vehicle on Dandridge Road in Walterboro because the vehicle had a broken brake light. That traffic stop resulted in four people inside the car being arrested on multiple charges, including trying to provide contraband to an inmate. The traffic stop occurred on March 6th on Dandridge Road, near Dahlia Street. According to an incident report filed with the sheriff’s office, the suspects – one woman and three men who range in age from 18 to 39 years old - were charged with possession of meth, less than one gram; furnishing contraband to an inmate at the Colleton County Detention Center; unlawful carrying of a handgun; possession of a controlled substance; and trafficking meth, greater than 28 grams but less than 100 grams.
