More than 700 Opium pills seized in city bust

A traffic stop that occurred on Feb. 28th at the corner of Hampton Street and Francis Street in Walterboro resulting in hundreds of Opium pills being discovered and seized.
Officers stopped a green Saturn SUV last week because the driver was driving without license plate lights. During the traffic stop, the drier appeared “nervous” and officers also smelled marijuana. Officers searched the vehicle and found three plastic bags, containing a total of 784 round blue pulls believed to be oxycodone. This was found in the glove box of the vehicle. The 27-year-old Walterboro man is charged with possession with intent to distribute a scheduled II controlled substance.

Naked woman taken to ER
Colleton County law enforcement officers were called to Rehoboth Road near Gaines Circle in rural Colleton County last week to a report of a naked woman walking alongside the road. Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office found the naked woman and transported her to Colleton Medical Center. The case is being investigated as an indecent exposure. No other details are available.

Child calls cops to check on mom
A 12-year-old Round O boy called police last week to check on his mother. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the boy asked officers to check on his mother, who was in an apartment at Hillcrest Apartments. The child said he was worried about his mother’s behavior. The woman is 44-years-old and is from Walterboro. No other details are available on this incident.

Driver passes out with music blaring
Officers were called to a business on Hampton Street last week to a report of a vehicle sitting in the parking lot and playing loud music. According to a Walterboro Police Department, officers arrived at 1214 Hampton Street and found the driver of the car passed out, behind the wheel. Loud music was playing and the vehicle was running, the report states. Inside the vehicle, officers also found drug paraphernalia, including a scale with marijuana residue on it and a grinder. Officers also seized 176 grams of marijuana. The 31-year-old Walterboro driver is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and disorderly conduct. The man is also charged with open container because officers found an open can of beer sitting in the console.

Shots fired at Druid Hills
On March 5th, officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to the Druid Hills Apartment Complex for a report of shots being fired. That 911-call resulted in a 29-year-old Walterboro man being charged with discharging a firearm within city limits; failure to stop for blue lights; littering; obstructing justice; leaving the scene of an accident with property damage; driving under suspension, first offense; and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. According to a police report, officers seized 1.2 grams of crack cocaine from the suspect, and located one spent 9-mm shell casing from the shooting. It is unclear why the shots were fired.
