Ninja-like burglars break into business through roof

Unknown burglars broke into a local business recently by cutting holes through the roof, which caused a significant amount of damage to the business.

On February 18th, unknown suspects cut through the roof the Wash and Shine laundry mat on Hampton Street in Walterboro and then stole from the business. About $10,000 in damage was done to the business during this burglary, according to a Walterboro Police Department incident report.

In all, more than $3,000 was stolen from the business. The suspects are wanted for grand larceny, malicious damage to property, second-degree burglary and safecracking.

This case is still under investigation.

Fast food worker locked in freezer

Officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to Colleton Medical Center in reference to someone being locked in the freezer at the hospital. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the 26-year-old Green Pond resident locked a 19-year-old Walterboro woman in the freezer at the KFC restaurant in Walterboro. The woman was safely removed and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Details about why the man locked the woman in the freezer were not available from the police department. There are also no pending charges, according to the report.

Failure to register as a sex offender

Anthony Ramon Preston has failed to register as a sex offender in Colleton County.

According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Preston was convicted as a sex offender on Feb. 12, 2004 and is required to register biannually as a sex offender. He must also provide local law enforcement officers with the address of his residence. As of oct. 4, 2021, he had failed to register, according to an incident report filed on Feb. 25, 2022. Preston’s last known address was in Round O.

Tiger Road Arrest

Officers were called to Tiger Road when they were notified by 911-callers that the driver of a 1998 Blue Ford Ranger was sitting in the roadway, turning the truck’s lights on and off. When they arrived, they discovered drugs. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, the 41-year-old male suspect is charged with possession of meth, possession of heroin, and possession of cocaine.

Officials respond to another overdose

Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to a Walterboro house on March 1st to do a welfare check on a person. When they arrived, they discovered a drug overdose. This is another in a string of overdose cases occurring in Colleton County this year: according to local officials, drug overdoses are on the rise in Colleton and statewide, with most overdoses locally happening because of meth and heroin, according to incident reports and fire-rescue officials.
