Stolen guns found in traffic stop

Officers found four stolen guns while completing a traffic stop last week. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, an officer stopped a black dodge Challenger vehicle for an equipment violation. While speaking to the driver, the officer stated in his report that he could smell marijuana coming from the car. The car was then searched. During the search, officers found four handguns in the vehicle, all of which were stolen. The officer also found one gram of marijuana. The occupants of the car – a 19-year-old Walterboro man, a 23-year-old Walterboro man; a 19-year-old Summerville man; and a 31-year-old North Charleston man - were each charged with the unlawful carrying of a handgun and possession of stolen handguns. The guns seized include a 9mm G3 Tarus; a 10mm Glock; a .380 Black Glock; and a 9mm Smith and Wesson M&P Shield.

Suspect shakes down elderly woman for cash
Deputies were called to a Garris Hill Loop residence on Feb. 17th when someone broke into a house and demanded money from the homeowner. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the suspect broke into the Smoaks mobile home by breaking the window to the front door. The suspect then told the victim to give him $20 or he would choke her, the report states. The 81-year-old victim declined to pursue charges.

Speeding motorist is rude to officer
A 29-year-old Walterboro man is charged with several traffic violations after he was caught speeding through the city. The man was clocked driving about 65 mph during the city, which is typically a 45-mph zone. The driver also failed to stop a red light, according to a Walterboro Police Department incident report. When the officer stopped the driver, he refused to comply with the officers’ commands, the report states, and had to be detained. The suspect was arrested for failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving and disobedience to officers, the report states.

Thief steals himself a snack
A 31-year-old Walterboro man is charged with shoplifting after he stole himself a Valentine’s Day treat. The man walked into the Parker’s gas station and stole a turkey sandwich, a bud light, Oreos and a bottle of wine. Convenience store workers called 911 when the man took the items and walked out without paying. This theft occurred on Feb. 14th. The total amount of the stolen items is about $19.46, a Walterboro Police Department incident report states. He is charged with shoplifting, first offense.
