Boyfriend chokes, threatens to kill woman during long assault

A 31-year-old Walterboro man is charged with aggravated assault (Criminal Domestic Violence) after choking his 29-year-old girlfriend. According to a Walterboro Police Department, officers were called to Colleton Medical Center on Jan. 20th to a report of aggravated assault.

At the hospital, officers found the female victim, who told officers that she and the suspect were arguing when he grabbed her by the throat and choked her until she lost consciousness. When she woke up, the suspect was looking for a gun. The man then threatened to shoot her and also to cut her throat. He then threatened to kill himself. Additionally, the man kept the woman hostage for several days, and only allowed took her to the hospital when she told him she was sick. During this time, the man had taken the woman’s phone from her so she could not call for help, she told authorities.

The case remains under investigation.

Shots fired

Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to a Colleton residence on Jan. 24th to a report of someone shooting at their house. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, they were called to McDanieltown Road, where an unknown suspect was shooting at the door of her house. No one witnessed the shooting, however, and deputies said there was no evidence to pursue charges.

Baby suspected to be born on drugs

A newborn baby was taken into emergency protective custody when the child’s mother brought him into the emergency room saying the child could not breathe. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the 32-year-old suspect is the child’s mother. The baby was going through signs of withdrawal from drugs since he had been born, the report states. The child was taken into custody and the mother is under investigation.

Woman assaulted at local gas station

While putting gas into her car on the night of January 18th, a 19-year-old Walterboro woman told authorities that she was approached by three people (two women and a man) who pulled alongside her car and threatened to fight her. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the victim told authorities that one of the women got out of her, threatened to fight her and then took at swing at her. The two other occupants also attached her, with the man holding the woman’s arms behind her back so she could not defend herself. The victim refused to pursue charges against the suspects, as she told authorities that she recognized them and fears for her safety. According to the police report, the suspects are “known shooters” in the area. No action was taken.

New inmate caught with meth

A Yemassee woman is charged with possession of meth after the drugs were discovered during a search at the Colleton County Detention Center. According to a Walterboro Police Department crime report, the 24-year-old female suspect was taken to the county jail on Jan. 24th after she was arrested for breach of trust. During a strip search of the woman at the jail, detention officers discovered a bag filled with white powder. When asked about the drugs, the suspect told officers she “forgot she had it on her,” the report states. About 4.6 grams were found inside the woman’s waistband. The drugs were seized and the woman is also charged with possession of meth.

Car wash shooting

Walterboro police officers were called to 802 Black Street in Walterboro on Jan. 23rd to a report of shots being fired at a man while he was trying to wash his car. According to a Walterboro Police Department report, the victim said he was washing his car at a car wash located on Hampton Street when someone began to shoot at this vehicle. The shots came from another vehicle: the 22-year-old victim saw the car and told authorities the vehicle was heading to the EZ Shop No. 9. He also said he believed the unknown suspects were trying to kill him.

During the shooting, the window to a business was shot out. Investigators were not able to recover shell casings from the scene. The case is under investigation.
