Sex offender wanted for failing to register

A Walterboro man is wanted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, second offense. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the man – identified as Foryst Street - was convicted of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a minor, third-degree. He was also convicted of Lewd Act with a Minor. This conviction was handed down by a judge in another county on Sept. 4, 2020. Since the suspect was convicted, he has moved to Colleton County. The suspect originally gave local law enforcement officers his new address in Colleton County; however, he did not register as a sex offender in Colleton County, as he is required to do.
Drugs, gun found in traffic stop
A deputy with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Augusta Highway on Feb. 4 and ultimately charged the driver with possession with intent to distribute meth, first offense. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the 29-year-old driver was stopped near Maple Ridge Road when he failed to maintain his lane. While getting the suspect’s driver’s license, the deputy’s drug dog “gave a positive alert” to drugs being in the car, the report states. During a search of the car, the deputy found 1.4 grams of crack cocaine. The deputy also found a handgun. The man was charged and taken to jail.
Several gas stations targeted by shoplifters
Officers with the Walterboro Police Department are investigating shoplifting offenses that occurred at area convenience stores last week. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the assistant manager of a Shell gas station on Bells Highway reported to police that an unknown person wearing a hooded camouflage jacket removed several items of clothing from an exterior sales rack. The stolen items include T-Shirts and a hoodie, the report states. In a separate incident, officers were called to a Jefferies Boulevard convenience store when several men asked the clerk for $20 in one-dollar-bills. The men then proceeded to walk around the store and take items without paying them. The stolen items include bags of potato chips.
In a third unrelated incident, an unknown person stole beer from inside a Walterboro gas station. According to a police incident report, the female clerk walked outside to try to get the suspect’s tag number. At that point, the woman told officers that the driver tried to purposefully strike her with the vehicle. This case is under investigation for both shoplifting and assault and battery.
Stolen ATV found
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to Lake Shores Road when a golf car was found in the middle of a roadway. When deputies arrived, they discovered a gator ATV in the middle of the road, with a man walking away from it. The gator had been reported stolen. The man was discovered to also have drugs on him. He was charged with possession of meth, less than one gram. It is not indicated in the incident report if the man was responsible for stealing the gator.
Drugs found during I-95 car stop
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Interstate 95 and subsequently charged the driver with multiple counts of drug offenses. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, the driver was stopped near mile marker 65 as he crossed the center line several times. When a deputy stopped the vehicle, the deputy did a search of the vehicle and then found “several bags of narcotics,” the report states. The driver and his front-seat passenger were each charged with several drug-related offenses; including trafficking heroin; possession of cocaine base; possession of meth; possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession with intent to distribute meth.
Man charged with drug offenses
Deputies responded to an area along Hendersonville Highway near Penile Road on Feb. 2 to help other officers with a traffic stop. According to an incident report filed with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, the driver had “already surrendered” meth. During a search of the vehicle and the driver, deputies also found pills inside the man’s jacket. They were identified as trazodone, the report states. The man was taken to jail and charged with possession with intent to distribute meth; driving under suspension; possession with intent to distribute a schedule IV drug; and a seatbelt violation.
