Angry man threatens to kill woman who called for help

By HEATHER Ruppe

A deputy responding to a 911-hang up call near Walterboro last week spotted a man walking down Madison Street: the man seemed to be upset, and the deputy stopped to ask him if he was okay. This began a series of events that ultimately led to that man being arrested for threatening to kill a woman in the presence of a law enforcement officer.

According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the man originally told the deputy that he was fine and continued to walk down the street. That deputy then pulled into the nearby driveway of the house where the 911-call came from. At that point, the man began walking toward the house. According to the incident report, the man then began yelling, threw his hat off his head and continued to yell at a woman who was speaking to the deputy. In his anger, the man was yelling to the woman, asking if she had called 911, an incident report states.

While talking to the woman, the deputy learned that the man had hit the woman in her face with his fist. The man was handcuffed for suspected Criminal Domestic Violence, at which point he proceeded to threaten to kill the woman – in front of the deputy.

The 43-year-old man is charged with third-degree criminal domestic violence.
