Women start bar brawl in Walterboro

Two Ravenel women are charged with starting a brawl at a local restaurant and bar.

Officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to the Barrel House Restaurant in Walterboro on Jan. 9th to a report of a fight happening in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground and several people were in the parking lot, yelling and cursing. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the bartender told authorities that the a woman got into the fight with the victim, leading to others trying to stop the fight and more people getting hurt. One of the suspects then began kicking the victim in the head with her foot. Firefighter-paramedics were called, and took a victim to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was taken into custody and the business told authorities that they had the incident on video, the report said.

The victims are a 43-year-old Walterboro man and a 21-year-old Walterboro woman. Both suspects are women from Ravanel. They are charged with third-degree assault and battery.

Car theft uncovers thefts

Deputies were called to a Smoaks residence on Jan. 13th to a report of a car being stolen and then learned that a thief had also stolen more than a dozen catalytic converters from vehicles on the property. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the deputy was called to a residence to a report of a stolen vehicle. While speaking to the victim, the deputy learned that 16 catalytic converters were taken off of cars on the property. Other property was also taken, the report states, but there is no list given in the report.

Missing person reported

Colleton authorities were called to Botany Bay on Edisto Island last week to help find a reported missing person. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, local authorities were called to the site to help the S.C. Department of Natural Resources search for the missing person: local K9 units were also brought to help in the search. However, no tracks were discovered, the report states. There is no update on the status of the missing person.

Driver leads cops on chase

A Colleton County deputy tried to stop a vehicle on Sniders Highway near Ruffin on Jan. 14th, but the driver refused to stop, resulting in a brief car chase. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the deputy tried to stop the 2016 Toyota Corolla because it had a busted headlight and a paper tag. However, the driver refused and sped away, nearly hitting a street sign at an intersection. The male driver then stopped the car, and jumped from the vehicle, going into a patch of woods. He has not been found.

Suspects leap from car to avoid arrest

While doing routine patrol on North Jefferies Boulevard last week, a Walterboro police officer tried to stop a vehicle for speeding: the car was traveling 57 mph in a 35-mph zone, the report states. However, as the driver brought the car to a stop, two men leaped from the car and began running toward Wichman Street. The officer were able to hold the driver at gunpoint. When other officers arrived on scene, they began to search for the other two passengers, but they were not found. The driver was charged with driving under suspension, third offense, and was taken to jail.

Shots fired, but no suspects found

Cops were called to the area of Wichman and Savage Streets last week to multiple reports of shots being fired. When they arrived, people along the streets directed them to Gruber Street, where people were seen walking. The officers heard the shots being fired but was unable to determine the location. The case was marked “unfounded,” the report states, and no other action was taken.

Wal-Mart shoplifter

Officers were called to Wal-Mart on Jan. 3rd when a woman put multiple items into a shopping cart and then walked out of the store – without paying for them. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the woman stole more than $300 in clothes, food and other miscellaneous items. The woman walked out of the store, and got into a black SUV. The woman was not found.
