Colleton County Sheriff’s Office Reports

12/13/22-LODGE: Officer responded to a phone call about a trailer being stolen on Bells Highway.

12/13/22-ROUND O: At approximately 1:30 p.m., an officer arrived on the scene on Turner Lane in reference to the victim wanting to report items missing from their location. The victim advised the officer of the missing items along with a possible suspect. Officer notified headquarters of the incident and responded to the scene.

12/13/22-RUFFIN: At approximately 6:35 a.m., CCSO responded to Red Root Road regarding an assault. Armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

12/13/22-WALTERBORO: Officer responded to Bedon Road in reference to a female being found not breathing by her husband.

12/13/22-SMOAKS: At approximately 9:11 p.m., officers responded to a gunshot victim. Attempted murder and aggravated assault.

12/13/22-WALTERBORO: An officer received information on Dawndee Newsome’s whereabouts who was staying in Cottageville. Newsome had an outstanding felony warrant with Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Officer went to the location on Rehoboth Road in Cottageville to attempt to contact Newsome with negative contact. It was confirmed that Newsome was staying at the residence, but she was in town with the homeowner. Officer began searching business parking lots in Walterboro where the officer located the homeowner’s Silver 2007 Honda Accord at Sonic parked. At approximately 2:14 p.m., the officer got to the vehicle where contact was made with Newsome sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Newsome was detained where Colleton County Dispatch was advised to send a hit confirmation to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Upon confirmation, Newsome was placed under arrest and transported to the Colleton County Detention Center for housing. A hold was placed for Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

12/13/22-COTTAGEVILLE: Officer responded to Augusta Highway in reference to a suspicious person and once contact was made, he was found to be wanted by Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

12/14/22-WALTERBORO: At approximately 3 p.m. deputies, responded to the Colleton County Middle School (CCMS) in reference to a physical assault between two students.

12/14/22-YEMASSEE: At approximately 10:17 p.m., CCSO responded to White Hall Road in reference to suspicious activity. The homeowner advised them of coming home and having her doorknob fall apart when she entered the home. She also smelled gas in the residence.

12/14/22-WALTERBORO: At approximately 6:09 p.m. deputies, responded to Hatchell Drive in reference to a vehicle involved in an accident on Cottageville Highway, later reported stolen.

12/14/22-ISLANDTON: Officer spoke with the complainant by phone in reference to his mailbox being damaged sometime the previous night on Rum Gully Road.

12/15/22 - WALTERBORO: At approximately 9:02 a.m. CCSO responded to Ivory Court, Walterboro in reference to an assault.

12/16/22-LODGE: At approximately 7:51 a.m., Officer was dispatched in reference to a burglary. Officer arrived on the scene and met with the victim who stated that an unknown suspect(s) cut the lock on her neighbor’s gate, then crossed onto her property. While on her property the suspect(s) stole a 2022 orange Husqvarna MZ61 off the trailer from underneath the shed.

12/16/22-LODGE: Officer responded to the ER at Colleton County in reference to an assault that had occurred. Upon the officer’s arrival at the ER, noted that Fire and Rescue had transported the victim. The victim stated that while doing yard work near the corner of his property, his neighbor drove by and stopped his car in the roadway and began yelling at the victim. The victim then stepped near the roadway and began auguring back. The assailant then accelerated forward in his vehicle toward the victim. The victim then stepped into the roadway behind the assailant’s vehicle, assailant then put his vehicle into reverse and then accelerated backward and hit the victim.

12/16/22-COTTAGEVILLE: At approximately 5:21 p.m., deputies were dispatched in reference to a vehicle reported stolen from On Star out of Florida.

12/16/22-COTTAGEVILLE: At approximately 7:17 p.m., Officer responded to the incident location in reference to reports of an armed and intoxicated suspect causing a disturbance. Subsequently, the suspect was arrested for unlawful carrying of a handgun.

12/16/22-WALTERBORO: Officer responded to Cox Street in reference to a suspicious person. Officer arrived on the scene and contacted the homeowner who advised the officer that the catalytic converter was cut off his vehicle.

12/17/22-ROUND-O: Deputies were dispatched to Sidneys Rd (Dollar General) in reference to the complainant wishing to report a stolen debit card that the subjects attempted to use at the Pak-a-Sak across the street. The transaction was declined, and a video of the subjects was provided to the complainant by the store manager.

12/18/22-WALTERBORO: Officer responded in reference to a dispute between roommates where two of the three disputing roommates were found to be wanted by Probation and Parole.

12/18/22-YEMESSEE: At approximately 9:37 a.m., officers were dispatched to 436 Public Landing in reference to an assault.

12/18/22-ROUND O: At approximately 3:03 p.m., the officer was dispatched in reference to a burglary.

12/18/22-WALTERBORO: Officers responded to Jefferies (an inactive church -Soul Saving Faith Center building). The side door was kicked open, and the officer observed a male and female walking away near the crime scene. They were detained and later arrested for trespassing and malicious damage to property. They admitted that they were trying to stay warm, and it appeared nothing was stolen from the building. They were transported to the Colleton County Detention Center without incident.

12/19/22-SMOAKS: At approximately 10:37 a.m., CCSO spoke to the complainant at Strickland Farm Road in reference to a larceny. An unknown subject stole $450 from the residence while the victim was sleeping.

12/19/22-WALTERBORO: Officer responded to Maple Ridge Road for theft of items in a vacant house.

12/19/22-ROUND O: At approximately 1:55 p.m., deputies responded to Byrd Farm Road in reference to a burglary.

12/19/22-WALTERBORO: At approximately 6:22 p.m. CCSO responded to King Street regarding a residence that was hit by gunfire.

12/19/22-WALTERBORO: At approximately 6:49 p.m., CCSO received a call from Bridle Street in reference to a stolen gun from a vehicle.

12/19/22-WALTERBORO: At approximately 10:39 p.m., CCSO spoke to the complainant by telephone concerning larceny that occurred on Industrial Road.

12/19/22-SMOAKS: At approximately 1:38 a.m., CCSO contacted the complainant by telephone concerning someone shooting at him at the corner of Johnsville Road and Sunrise Road.

Walterboro Police Department Reports

12/12/22-WICHMAN ST / SAVAGE ST: Officers responded to an individual leaving the scene of a collision with property damage, and striking fixtures on the highway. Open container, DUI (Driving Under the Influence).

12/13/22-ROBERTSON BLVD (FOOD LION): Officer was dispatched for shoplifting that had occurred. Contact was made with an employee; video footage was reviewed, and information was gathered. The CCSO was able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle matching the offender’s vehicle. The offender was identified by officers from video footage. Shoplifting 1st offense $2,000 or less.

12/14/22-SAVAGE ST: Officers were dispatched to the above location in reference to a stolen license plate. Larceny from a vehicle.

12/14/22-ROBERTSON (COLLETON MEDICAL): Officers responded to a report of a stolen license plate. Larceny from a vehicle.

12/14/22-ROBERTSON BLVD. (COLLETON MEDICAL): Multiple officers responded to a report of two females fighting. Assault and battery 3rd degree.

12/14/22-WICHMAN STREET: Officer was dispatched in reference to a motor vehicle collision. DUS (Driving Under Suspension) 2nd and greater.

12/15/22-ALEXANDER ST: Officer responded in reference to a stolen dog. Petit larceny under $2,000.

12/15/22-BELLS HWY ENTERPRISE BANK: Officer met with the complainant at City Hall in reference to a forgery. Forgery under $10,000.

12/15/22-HAMPTON ST (AA BUILDING): Officers responded in reference to leaving the scene of a collision. Leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

12/15/22-ROBERTSON BLVD. (BARREL HOUSE): Officers responded in reference to a fight in progress. Assault and battery 3rd degree and petit larceny under $2,000.

12/15/22-BELLS HWY.: Officers were dispatched in reference to someone sleeping in a box in the parking lot. Trespassing after notice, loitering, littering, and an open container.

12/16/22-INTERSECTION OF WICHMAN AND SAVAGE ST: Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection. No South Carolina driver’s license and leaving the scene of accident w/ property damage.

12/16/22-SNIDERS HWY (DAYS INN): Officer was dispatched in reference to a fight in progress. While en route officer was advised that the suspect was leaving in an unknown vehicle and unknown direction. Assault and battery 3rd degree and malicious damage to the vehicle.

12/16/22-KLEIN STREET: Officers were dispatched in reference to items being stolen. Contact was made with the victim and information was gathered. Grand larceny $10,000 or more.

12/16/22-BELLS HWY (WALMART): Officers responded in reference to some money being taken from someone’s wallet. Contact was made with the victim; information was gathered and video footage was reviewed. Petit larceny under $2,000.

12/17/22-DETREVILLE ST: Officers were conducting a property check at the Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary for individuals in the park after hours. Officers observed a gray jeep and made contact. While making contact, an ar-15 style rifle was observed lying on the front seat. Officers also observed the offender lying in the back of the vehicle and woke him up. He was found to have a handgun lying next to him. He was placed under arrest for unlawful carry and transported to the jail and booked. Unlawful carrying of a pistol.

12/17/22-PERRY RD: Officer responded in reference to a damaged fence due to an incident of leaving the scene of an accident. Leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

12/17/22-BELLS HWY (FAMILY DOLLAR): Officer responded to a motor vehicle collision at the store. Leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

12/18/22-BELLS HWY: Officers were dispatched to Walmart in reference to a subject having attempted to shoplift multiple cases of beer while riding an electronic shopping cart. The subject had left prior to the officers’ arrival and was not located. All merchandise was recovered by the loss prevention officers. Shoplifting 1st offense $2,000 or less.

12/18/22- N. LEMACKS: Officer responded regarding larceny. Petit larceny under $2,000.

12/18/22-WICHMAN ST / EAST WASHINGTON ST: Officer while patrolling the area observed a vehicle with defective equipment. A lawful traffic stop was conducted. Consent to search the vehicle was granted and a search of the vehicle produced narcotics. The narcotics were seized and turned into evidence for destruction. Possession of amphetamine and possession of marijuana.
