Authorities investigate report of alleged sexual assault of Colleton County child

Law enforcement officials with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a claim that a 3-year-old toddler has been sexually assaulted.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office were notified of the abuse allegations on Sept. 28th. The person who reported the abuse said he/she believes the child has been assaulted by a “close friend of the family,” a sheriff’s office incident report states. This abuse allegedly occurred in Walterboro. The case is under investigation. As of press deadline, no arrests have been made.

Counterfeit checks given to grocery store
Officers with the Walterboro Police Department were called to a business on Wichman Street in Walterboro last week to a report of counterfeiting. According to a police department report, a customer at the IGA grocery store used multiple counterfeit checks, totaling more than $5,000. One check was dated for Sept. 6th, in the amount of $302. Other checks were for amounts of $600 or more. This case is under investigation.

Drive-by shooting suspect sought
Officers are investigating a case of attempted murder after a drive-by shooting occurred at a local apartment complex. The incident occurred on Sept. 22nd at the Witsell Street apartment complex, which is located in Walterboro. The 40-year-old victim, who is from Ruffin, told authorities that someone fired shots at him, according to a Walterboro Police Department incident report. This case is under investigation by the Walterboro Police Department.

Drugs found in Walterboro house
Three Walterboro men have been charged with multiple drug violations. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, local officers were at a Black Street residence with federal agents, as they attempted to make contact with a local woman who had multiple arrest warrants against her. The officers were at the front door of the house asking for the female suspect when officers stated they could smell the odor of drugs coming from inside the house. Officers “made a sweep” of the house and found drugs inside. They also found the woman who were originally looking for. Officers seized six pills of Xanax, 5 grams of meth, three phones, syringes, and other miscellaneous drugs, including fentanyl. The suspects are all from Walterboro and are ages 20, 37 and 39.

Merchandise stolen from company storage shed
Officials with the Dayco business in Walterboro are reporting that thousands of dollars in goods have been stolen from their property. According to an incident report filed with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, unknown suspects have repeatedly broken into a storage shed on the Dayco property. These thefts have occurred between June 1st and Sept. 27th of this year. The stolen goods actually belong to Jaxco, and are cases of merchandise. Jaxco, another business located in Walterboro, has been suing the storage sheds on the Dayco property to store their goods. The stolen boxes of merchandise are valued in the thousands of the dollars, the report states. This case is under investigation.

Student threat under investigation
Authorities with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to Colleton County Middle School on Sept. 26th when a student threatened to harm a school staff member. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, the student made a verbal threat to hurt the staff member. It is unclear if any action was taken against the student, based on the incident report.
