Traffic checkpoints happening this weekend
By HEATHER RUPPE

The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office will be working with other area law enforcement agencies this coming weekend to create several traffic checkpoints throughout the county.
According to sheriff’s office Spokeswoman Shalane Lowes, the traffic safety checkpoints will mostly be held this Friday and Saturday, October 22nd and October 23rd, in the Canes, Round O and Cottageville communities. In these traffic checkpoints, officers will look for drunk drivers, seatbelt violations, child restraints and whether or not drivers have a valid driver’s license, she said.
Lowes said the checkpoints are open to law enforcement entities from every agency in Colleton County and from agencies in other neighboring counties, including Allendale, Hampton, Jasper and Beaufort counties. These counties are part of the Law Enforcement Network, which is comprised of individual law enforcement circuits that help to support all 46 counties in South Carolina.
The networks are made up of local and state traffic enforcement officers, prosecutors, and federal law enforcement agencies.
