Robbery, shooting reported
Walterboro Police responded to a shooting on Jan. 4.
The victim was taken to Colleton Medical Center. He told officers he was walking on Sweat Street toward Hardee’s when a white Nissan stopped beside him. A black male about 5’7” tall got out and demanded the victim give him everything in his pockets, then pressed a gun to the victim’s shoulder. After the suspect took $400 from the victim’s pocket, he reportedly shot him in the back of his left shoulder. The suspect then got back in the car and fled.
Woman runs car into ambulance
Just after midnight Monday Jan. 4, Fire-Rescue and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported psychiatric patient on Possum Corner Road.
Immediately on arrival, they were met by an adult female who reported a life-threatening situation inside the residence. Personnel ran toward the home and, as they passed the female, she ran to a deputy’s car, entered the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene.
As she quickly accelerated in reverse, she drove the deputy’s cruiser into the front of the ambulance, damaging both vehicles. The female was quickly apprehended.
A second Fire-Rescue ambulance responded to transport the woman to the hospital for evaluation.
No one was injured in the incident.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Employee
reportedly takes
98 lottery tickets
A Walterboro convenience store reported on Jan. 10 that an employee was taking lottery ticket dispensers without payment.
The employee allegedly took 98 lottery tickets valued at $400, then received $110 in cash “winnings.” The tickets were cashed at staggered times, then scratched off and disposed of in the store’s trash.
The employee was arrested, charged for defrauding the S.C. Education Lottery.
Gambling
watching
A woman reported Jan. 8 that she was leaving a local store when a short black man wearing all black approached her and said “Watch me.” After her third try at clarifying what he said, the man told her “Watch me gamble.”
The victim said the man took her to an unknown location where she watched him gamble. He then took her to an ATM and told her to withdrawn money. She said she gave him $200. Then they went back to the same unknown location.
A while later, the woman reported he told her to go get the receipt from the ATM, then disappeared.

Catalytic
converters stolen
Deputies responded to stolen catalytic converters at the following places: two on Chrissy Lane, one on Senior Avenue, two on Jefferies Highway, one on Augusta Highway, one on Senior Avenue.
Chase near Ruffin
Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a green F150 on Jan. 5 with an improper tag, improper turn and speeding.
The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed down Smyly Road, onto Lowcountry Highway then on a dirt road, Risher Road, accelerating at a high rate of speed and almost losing control several times.
After the pursuit reaching 105 mph, the chase ended on Confederate Highway and the driver and three passengers were detained.
The driver was arrested for failure to stop for blue lights and driving under suspension.
A firearm and burglary tools found in the vehicle were collected for evidence.
The passengers were released.

Vehicle vandalized
An Upchurch Road resident reported Jan. 7 his Chrysler 300 had been damaged.
The vehicle’s hood, roof, trunk, wiper blades and passenger door were damaged. Damage was estimated at $2,040.
A video of the suspect was given to deputies.
Traffic stop results in arrest
Deputies stopped a F150 on Keegan Road on Jan. 7 because the tag didn’t belong to the vehicle.
A search of the driver found three grams of marijuana, a pipe and a black tube containing a clear rock that tested positive for methamphetamine.
A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded .20-gauge shotgun.
Man arrested after wreck
On Jan. 8 a deputy responded to assist Colleton Fire-Rescue, the S.C. Highway Patrol and Walterboro Police Department at a collision in front of Monster Storage. Officers found a silver Taurus firearm lying in the grass along the ditch.
One of the victims of the wreck reportedly told the deputy he threw it from the vehicle because he didn’t want it to blow up. However, the man was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to federal charges. He was arrested.
Man beats car with bat
Deputies responded Jan. 10 to Taylor Street after a report to a vandalized vehicle. The deputy responding found a man swinging a baseball bat and screaming in the front yard.
The vehicle had all four tires cut and the back driver-side window broken, as well as large scratches in the paint.
Assault on Can City Road
Deputies responded to an assault on Dec. 30 on Can City Road and found a victim covered in blood in the living room of the residence. The victim said he was unsure when the assault took place because he passed out when it happened.

Shots fired
on Stokes Road
On Jan. 3 deputies responded to shots fired on Stokes Road. The victims said one round entered their daughter’s room, coming from the front window. No injuries were reported.
