Checks taken from mailbox
A Wintergreen Road resident reported on May 20 he saw two individuals take the mail out of his mailbox. The victim knew the mail contained a check, so left for the bank to cancel the check.
Enroute to the bank, he saw the same car and blocked it in a driveway, demanding his check back. He got a check, but he said it belonged to his neighbor. He followed the car again, this trying retrieving his check and calling sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies responded, but the suspect had driven away. The investigation continues.

Car runs into house
Walterboro Police responded to a call that someone drove their vehicle into a house on Briarwood Drive on May 21.
As the officer arrived, he said he heard a vehicle accelerate at a high rate of speed toward the home, nearly hitting a man standing in the yard.
The driver was removed from his car at gunpoint. Officers believe he was intoxicated.
Officers saw tire tracks appearing to travel across the yard toward the left side of the home.
The victim said the two had been in a physical altercation the previous night. He said he was standing inside the house when the driver hit the left front of the home with his 1992 Isuku.
The victim was transported to Colleton Medical Center, complaining of a twisted ankle in his attempt to avoid the oncoming car.
The suspect was also transported to CMC for three broken ribs from the previous night’s altercation. He was treated and taken to jail.
