Colleton Prep Academy recognized the 2002 State Championship football team last Friday night during halftime of the football game. The 2002 Warhawk football team, under the direction of Coach Brock Miller, finished with a regular season record of 11-1. They achieved a number one ranking in the state and became the first athletic team to win a state championship in the school’s history.

The Warhawks had a powerful offense and a stingy defense. The team would score 495 points during the season while allowing only 158 points.

In talking with Coach Miller, you could sense the emotion and pride he has for that team.

“That was a magical season for the coaches, players, and school. Everybody came together and supported each other, from the parents, to the community, to the players. Everybody bought into the program and we got great support from the families of the kids,”said Miller.

Miller continued, “I feel like this team (2002) set the stage for what we see tonight. This team set the standard and left a legacy for future Warhawk teams to follow. We just had a special group of kids who worked together and sacrificed to accomplish what they achieved.”

Many of the players were on hand and they all stayed talking to each other and remembering that magical season-a season and a team that will long be remembered at CPA.
