There is a saying in sports that “an ugly win is better than a pretty loss.” Such was the case last Friday night as the Warhawks did not play their best game, but managed to make enough plays to win their 8th game of the year. They defeated the Carolina Academy Bobcats 22-0.

The Warhawks got on the scoreboard when Cole Davis scored on a 66-yard touchdown run, making the score 6-0 with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. Connor Nettles added a 32-yard field goal to make the halftime score 9-0.

Walker Bryan added a 55-yard touchdown run with 1:15 left in the third quarter, making the score 15-0. Bryan added a 1-yard touchdown run with 7:20 left in the game to make the final score 22-0.

“Offensively, it wasn’t our best game tonight but we were able to make enough plays to win the game. Carolina came out with a great defensive scheme and it took us a while to adjust. Our four turnovers didn’t help us. We have got to clean that up. That will definitely be a point of emphasis this week. Walker Bryan did a good job running hard and getting us going in the second half,” said Coach Greg Langdale.

He continued, “Defensively, I thought we had one of our best games. Drew Rushton played a good game at linebacker and several open field tackles. Our defensive line was able to control the line of scrimmage tonight and get pressure on the quarterback. That’s the kind of defensive effort we need to win these types of games.”

Coach Langdale went on to say, “Next week we have Beaufort Academy on the road. Beaufort is one of the best teams in 2-A. They are very disciplined and execute very well on offense. They have some very talented skill position players and their offensive line is very aggressive. Defensively, they are very good and like to fly to the ball. This is the type of game you have to love as a player and coach. We are excited for this matchup to see where we rank among the better teams in 2-A.”

Game time is set for 7:30.

CPA middle school saw their record improve to 7-1 with a 30-14 win over Pinewood Prep.
