Lee Dean Cox, 92, of Walterboro, South Carolina, passed to eternal life at her home on Wednesday, 30 October 2024. She was born in Walterboro, South Carolina in 1932 to Elijah Lee and Ethel Varnadoe Lyons. She graduated from Walterboro High School and then attended Emmanuel College, majoring in music. She worked at Fred Parker Funeral Home as the secretary for many years. She later attended the Baptist College of Charleston to obtain her Master’s Degree in Music. She was an extremely accomplished pianist and organist and was a music teacher and music director at local churches. She is survived by her husband, the Reverend David W. Cox, two children – Nancy Benton Carter (Ricky) and William Larry Benton (Regina), Two Sisters – Janelle Lyons Bazzle and Ann Lyons Nettles, Four Grandchildren – Jeremy David Carter (Stacy), Deana Carter Groves (Matthew), Reginald Lee Benton, Jonathan Michael Carter (Joanie), and five Great Grandchildren – Wyatt Carter, Gracelee Carter, Maddox Carter, Harper Groves, and Collin Groves, Sister-in-Laws – Janet Lyons, Darlene Lyons, Faye Greco, Brother-in-Law– Dan Powers, lots of Nieces and Nephews, along with a multitude of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband- George Reginald Benton, her two brothers- Harold Lyons and Bernard Lyons, her Step-daughter – Pamela Cox Mills, Brothers-in-law- Bryan Bazzle, Jackie Nettles, Revere Benton, Ronald Benton, Bernard Cox, Jack Powers, Robert Powers, David Powers, Eldrigde Cox and Ruis Cox, Sister-in-Laws, Cleonis Benton, Margaret Cameron, and Miriam Thomas. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements. Services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro. Visitation and service will be on Sunday, 3 November 2024. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed immediately by the funeral service. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro immediately following the service. The family would like to thank all of the caretakers that assisted her during her final days.
