Cox and Holmes homer in win over May River

The Colleton County Lady Cougars improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Region VII-AAAA after earning wins over May River High School (19-11) and Bluffton High School (17-7). The Lady Cougars suffered an 18-3 loss against Bluffton High School in the home game played on March 28.

Against May River High School on Monday, March 21, the Lady Cougars were tied at 11 runs in the top of the eighth inning when Christasia Holmes (2-6, 5-RBIs) homered on the first pitch to score three runs. Bailey Cox (3-6, 3-RBIs) went deep in the fourth inning scoring two runs. Makayla Chisolm was 4-5 on the night with 2-RBIs and Jordan Slocum was 3-6 with an RBI and scored twice.

Shandi Brown, Lanasia Sanders, and Sydney Stivender recorded multiple hits in the game.

Sydney Stivender earned the start in the circle for Colleton County, lasting eight innings, allowing 12 hits and 11 runs while striking out eight.

In the win over Bluffton High School on March 25, Stivender earned the start, surrendering seven runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out one. In the first inning, Jordan Slocum doubled on a 3-2 count, to score two runs and the Lady Cougars would tack on six runs in the second. Cox (four stolen bases) and Chisolm recorded multiple hits in the contest.

Monday evening’s loss to the Bobcats in game two of the two-game series, saw the Lady Cougars struggle defensively. Stivender started the game for Colleton County and allowed eight hits and nine runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Shandi Brown and Lanasia Sanders entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning, respectively.

Catcher, Jordan Slocum, led Colleton County at the plate, going 2-3 in the game.

Brown and Chisolm had a hit each.

Colleton County is scheduled to travel to Hilton Head Wednesday on March 30 for the first game of the away/home series.
