COVID-19 vaccinations on the rise

The number of South Carolinians who are vaccinated against COVID-19 is increasing.

According to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), 42 percent of all state residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

About 33 percent of all South Carolinians are fully vaccinated, as of Tuesday morning.

The majority of the vaccines given against the contagious respiratory virus is the Pfizer vaccine, followed by Moderna, according to S.C. DHEC.

In Colleton County, approximately 11,299 people have been vaccinated. The majority of those who are vaccinated are in the 29488 zip code: according to DHEC statistics, 6,634 residents in Walterboro are vaccinated, providing the largest vaccinated chunk of Colleton residents in this area.

As for the rest of the county, DHEC statistics are reporting that 732 people are vaccinated in the 29475 zip code; 583 people are vaccinated in the 29474 zip code; 988 people are vaccinated in the 29435 zip code; 88 people are vaccinated in the 29472 zip code; 400 people are vaccinated in the 29446 zip code; 242 people are vaccinated in the 29945 zip code; 434 people are vaccinated in the 29438 zip coce; 354 are vaccinated in the 29929 zip code; 140 people in the 29082 zip code are vaccinated; about about six people are vaccinated in the 29081 zip code.

The majority of those vaccinated in Colleton County continue to be women in all age brackets. This trend follows state statistics: approximately 55 percent of all South Carolina residents who are vaccinated are also women.
