On May 3rd, Colleton County Council voted to authorize the rezoning of a 4.3-acre parcel of land at Bennett’s Point. Originally identified as community commercial property, it will now be zoned Rural Conservation.

County Council has the legal authority to periodically amend the official county zoning ordinance and maps.

The applicant who asked the Colleton County Planning Commission for the rezoning did so to ensure that the property’s character and use would be preserved, according to county officials. The new rezoning would serve to maintain Bennett’s Point’s rural setting, according to the planning commission’s vote.

Council also voted unanimously to approve the new zoning.
